I know, yet another tip calculator. I couldn't find a tip calculator that did what I wanted so I made my own. It's not pretty and doesn't have the fanciest user interface but it's functional and has all the information I want on one page:
• Subtotal
• Grand Total
• Tax
• Tax percent
• Tip
• Pre Tax Tip Percent
• Post Tax Tip Percent
• Factor
• Number of People
• Per Person
Pre and Post Tax Tip Percent: Some restaurants give tip suggestions but sometimes it's before tax and sometimes it's after. So this app shows both so you can figure out which it is and what the difference is.
Tip Suggestions: There's also a handy tip suggestion page for when you want to determine what amount you want to round to.
Factor: You may be wondering what factor is. It's the ratio of the grand total to subtotal. This number is very useful to help calculate how much each person owes fairly when splitting a meal. Just multiply the factor by the subtotal for each person and that's the amount they owe as if they paid for themselves.
Example:
$100 subtotal, $10 tax (10%), $15 tip (15%), $125 grand total = 125/100 = 1.25 factor.
If your meal was $20, you owe $25.
$20 + $2 (10% tax) + $3 (15% tip) = $25.
Another way to look at it is the percentage of your meal times the grand total.
Split check by person: Add receipt items to people and generate a summary showing how much each person owes. Get a detailed summary of which items each person has.
